Some time ago, hackers reported the ‘Don’t Steal OS X” message that Apple left to would be hackers, which was located in “Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext” on the new Intel iMacs. Sure, it wasn’t anything more than a lighthearted job, but very much unique to Apple.
It seems that Apple is taking things even further, in their take on justice, a very poetic take at that. The hacker Maxxuss reports for The OSx86 Project that certain parts of OS X look for a hidden message in ‘commpage,’ a message that then gets decrypted by the TMP, which is a geek equivalent of a decoder ring.
The message reads:
“Your karma check for today:
There once was a user that whined
his existing OS was so blind,
he'd do better to pirate
an OS that ran great
but found his hardware declined.
Please don't steal Mac OS!
Really, that's way uncool.
(C) Apple Computer, Inc.”
It sure won’t win any prizes at a poetry contest, and half the time it doesn’t rhyme properly, but it is worthy of praise for the simple fact that it exists. For such a huge company, it is admirable how Apple takes the time to do these little things that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the rest of the corporate world. Kudos to Apple.
